How to Dose CBD
Now that you've explored both the physical and psychological benefits of CBD, let's talk about dosing. With any new product being introduced into your daily regiment, this is a good rule of thumb to follow..
Start low, go slow.
The optimal dose of CBD varies with each person. It is dependent on factors like weight, age, metabolism, tolerance to CBD, potency of oil and the condition you're treating. According to a 2017 survey, few feel they are qualified to counsel patients about what is the best dose of CBD. That's why it's so important to start gradually.
The most common dose of CBD is 20-40mg per dose. However it has been seen that a dose as low as 1mg can take effect, while others consume over 2000 mgs daily without adverse effects. Again, it's all relative! A good way to start is by adding 2-5 mg per dose until you find what works best for you.
Below is a chart recording low to high strength doses of pure CBD (it's very important to distinguish pure CBD from CBD oil)
Low strength → 1 mg CBD per 10 pounds (2 mg per 10 kg)
Medium strength → 3 mg CBD per 10 pounds (7 mg per 10 kg)
High strength → 6 mg CBD per 10 pounds (13 mg per 10 kg)
Another easy formula to use in calculating a dosage that may optimize your dosage
[YOUR WEIGHT IN POUNDS] x [DESIRED STRENGTH (0.1, 0.3, or 0.6 mg)]= [YOUR DOSE IN MG CBD]
With such a variance in results with the use of CBD, you may get the idea to start with a high dose in order to feel more of an effect. However, even though CBD has no known adverse side effects at any dose, an excessive amount of CBD could be less effective therapeutically than a moderate dose.
You must also keep in mind the enticing marketing tactics that some companies use such as “organic' or “all-natural,''can be misleading and don't have a scientific basis. Many product labels may claim to contain hemp or hemp seed oil, but this is extremely misleading as it is not the same as hemp-derived CBD oil. Often they will contain minute amounts or no cannabinoids at all. With inaccurate marketing comes improper dosage.
At this point you may be wondering what the most accurate method of taking CBD is? The answer to that is capsules. Because capsules are filled with an exact amount of CBD, they provide a truly accurate way to dose CBD. Once you find the dose your body is comfortable with, you’re good to go! Not to mention, it doesn’t get easier than taking a capsule. With anything you're ingesting, it is always important to stay mindful as to what roll it is playing in your body. You can gradually incorporate CBD into your diet and then gradually build from there as you feel ready for it!
Three types of resin-rich cannabis and cannabis products:
Type 1 (THC-dominant) – High THC, low CBD (famously intoxicating cannabis varietals)
Type 2 (THC & CBD) – Mixed THC and CBD cultivars (intoxicating, but not as edgy as THC-dominant varietals)
Type 3 (CBD-dominant) – High CBD, low THC (non-euphoric marijuana or hemp)
