Inflammation. When most people think of inflammation they think of an injury where they need to take ibuprofen for relief. But now there is growing research that states it’s not just a symptom of an injury or infectious disease. It has been linked to some of the most serious health conditions we face, such as cancer, alzheimers and heart disease. There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic.

Acute inflammation is a healthy inflammatory response that repairs damage and protects you from infection. For example, when you hurt your knee, the immune system sends white blood cells to protect the injury, which results in redness and swelling. Same goes for if you catch the flu or pneumonia. As humans we need inflammation as our injuries or infections wouldn’t heal without it.

Chronic inflammation is caused from poorly treated injuries, autoimmune disorders and exposure to toxins. For some inflammation is a daily struggle. Some conditions include arthritis, asthma and colitis. It is a rule of thumb that all conditions ending in -itis, are caused by inflammation.

For most the first choice for relief is a painkiller such as ibuprofen or aspirin. Although helpful in the short term, they can lead to serious health issues down the road. Some as severe as strokes or heart attacks. Lifestyle choices are the key to happy inflammation regulation. A combination of sleep, exercise, de-stressing activities, and diet all help to maintain this. To add to this combination CBD and Omega-3’s have been found to have amazing results for managing inflammation. CBD not only is effective in reducing inflammation and pain but helps with anxiety, nausea and even acne. CBD and other cannabinoids work by attaching themselves to receptors in both your brain and immune system. One of these receptors, CB2 has been known to reduce inflammation.

Omega-3’s essential fatty acids (EFA’s) are polyunsaturated fats that are found in both plants and animals. Some common sources are salmon, sardines, chia and flax seeds. These fats are very important as the body cannot produce them itself, they must be supplemented. There are 3 types of Omega-3’s: ALA, EPA, and DHA. ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) is mostly found in flaxseeds and although the body can create DHA and EPA from these, it is not the most effective. EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) is mostly found in fish and has amazing heart benefits. DHA (Docosapentaenoic Acid) is found in both fish and algae and is great for the brain. So why are these important? They are powerhouses of nutrition. They have many benefits for the heart, brain and also help prevent diabetes. One of the main benefits of Omega-3’s are their ability to reduce inflammation. When taken with one another CBD and Omega-3’s have incredible anti-inflammatory effects on the body. CBD binds to receptors, such as CB2 that reduce inflammation, and Omega-3’s enable the body to produce natural cannabinoids/endocannabinoids.

Whether you suffer from an anti-inflammatory condition or you are nursing an injury, the combination of these powerhouses can have incredible preventative results. Not only do they support a healthy brain and heart, they work together to allow your body to operate at optimal efficiency. They are a healthy alternative to painkillers for injury and allow your body to heal/revitalize naturally.
